A positive attitude in the workplace can shape not only your day-to-day experience but those you work alongside. Whether you're a "glass half-full" or "half-empty", there is no denying a positive attitude has numerous health benefits and can improve your workplace experience.
With the winter season in full swing our team wanted to share 3 ways to remain positive in the workplace, not only during the winter months, but year round:
Start with saying "Yes". Start simple and implement using "yes" more in your day-to-day structure. Whether it's having lunch in the staff room with colleagues or taking on additional tasks to expand your professional skill set. By taking one "yes" at a time you will be cultivating a positive & resilient outlook.
Reframe your perspective. Instead of jumping into a situation with a negative perspective, take a step back and think of it from a positive lens. For example; the coffee has run out in the staff room, it's 3 PM and you need one last kick to make it through the work day. You're about to make a negative comment to your colleague until you remember reframing the thoughts. Instead you say, "I already had 3 cups today, what a blessing in disguise!".
Be encouraging. Remember everyone is trying their best everyday that they come into the workplace. In the book, "The Only HR Best Practice You'll Ever Need", Wendy Ellen Inc.'s very own, Wendy Giuffre & Ashley Kieboom shared, "...we advise to always remember one thing — this is a person sitting across from you". With so much of our waking hours spent at work why not make these hours positive and encouraging for not only yourself but those around you.
Bonus — Health Benefits. Stress relief, increased immunity, and improved wellness are among some of the numerous health benefits that can be found by leading a positive and uplifting lifestyle. We believe in bringing your authentic self to the workplace, therefore, bringing your best self to the work you do everyday.
There you have it — 3 ways you can remain positive in the workplace and small, incremental steps you can take to improve your mindset. By maintaining a positive attitude you'll be able to improve your body, mind, and relationships with those around you.
